John Timpane

John Timpane, Ph.D., is Commentary page editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer. He earned his doctorate in English and humanities from Stanford University and has taught at Lafayette College, Rutgers University, the University of Southampton, and Stanford. He is author or co-author of four books, including Usonia, New York: Building a Community With Frank Lloyd Wright (Princeton Architectural Press, 2001) and It Could be Verse: Anybody’s Guide to Poetry (Ten Speed Press, 1995) His scientific essays and articles have appeared in periodicals such as Scientific American and Science and his general-audience essays and reviews in newspapers such as the Philadelphia Inquirer, Boston Globe, and Miami Herald.
