Reasons for thinker insula - research?

 I would be interested in research regarding what makes the insula in some people thinker than in others. Their upbringing, their education, their external circumstances, support, or lack of, initial gene pool, or is it random? I work as personal development facilitator and the book Body Has the Mind of Its Own is of interest and help to me. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
