I 've asked around but almost nobody can smell the cold. Here in Co. I can smell the cold on people when they come indoors; outdoors is strong too. Its weird, why do you think this happens? Anybody else?
Possible to smell selectively?

You may think I'm crazy, but I believe I have developed the ability to smell selectively. It doesn't always work and depends on how strong the smell is, but I seem to be able to adjust how I am breathing through my nose so that after a few breaths I can (on purpose) no longer smell an odor. Does this make sense, or am I nuts?

When I was a kid throwing papers some 45 years ago, me and a friend killed a skunk with sling shots under an individuals bedroom window. The next day we got the butt chewing of our life from his wife. He apparently puuked all night. From that time forward I have loved the smell of the skunk; thought I was being punished or something. The smell has gotten ONLY better with time. I have sat on my back porch and watched skunks eat along side the family cat. With a week I was sitting with them and feeding the skunk by hand. They all have a unique personalily that is enjoyable to experience. Just wanted to share my experience.

You can get little bottles of skunk spray that hunting stores sell (presumably to mask the hunters' smell) -- I've thought about getting some...
Of course when my dog got sprayed and it was so strong it burned my eyes, that wasn't terrific. But she smelled great a few days later. To have skunks living under my house, their kits rolling and playing beneath the bird feeder: heaven. And when people object to my pleasure in the scent, I think, "They just aren't earthy or sensual or real." We're lucky. ANYTHING is better than the toxic horror that is Febreze.
I Don't Smell Skunk!

I do NOT smell skunk at all, yet as a child and into adulthood, I did. I clearly remember the smell and its overbearing "feel". The odd thing is, for many years now, I have discovered that when everyone around me groans, "ugh, SKUNK!" I smell absolutely nothing, even if I breath deeply! Still, I continue to smell everything else, good or bad. What can cause such selective change? I am so curious about this!

Was so pleased to see that there are others in this world who love the smell of skunk. I not only like the smell, I crave it! I can't breathe enough of it. Thanks all for posting your love of skunk smell comments. Nice to know I'm not alone. I think of us all as "special" not "weird!"

I live in England and the very first time I came to the the USA and Georgia I was introduced to a Skunk road kill. At that very time I knew I had smelled that smell before but have not been able to work out exactly what it reminded me of. I have been to the USA 6 times now but still I can't work it out. Oh by the way, I like the smell too.

This article was absolutely awesome. I've always liked the smell of skunk too, so I figured it has to be a matter of learned smells. I also find it interesting how certain inviduals typically find other people's body odor to be offensive, but meanwhile their own will not. But I suppose that's a whole different can of worms.

Recently, I have very very suddenly gained the ability to taste something in olives that I could not taste before. I used to like olives, but now I can taste and smell something disgusting in olives, even in olive oil. Disliking it was not learnt, i smelt it and thought 'yuk' before I even knew it was from olives. Its very odd, and I'm sad to lose olives.
Skunk smell relieves migraine

I know this sounds odd, but when I have a migraine, the best relief is the smell of a skunk! I don't know what it is! It instantly relieves the tension and gives me a calming effect. Has anyone ever experienced this before with the smell of a skunk? Odd, I know!

I have always LOVED the smell of skunk. When my child was 4 years old, we lived rurally. Once we drove past a dead skunk in the road. I look at his face, and he was ecstatic! I never told him prior to that date of my love for that smell. To us skunk smell is chocolatey, earthy, woodsy, creamy, smooth and TOTALLY DELICIOUS and intoxicating. Sort of weird, huh?
