Larger issue of drug prohibition
Sami Nyberg

Stimulant use is not a new issue. Per population use of stimulants (amphetamine, methylphenidate, ritalin) has increased in the US and globally since "control" began circa 1970. But now many people get stimulants from the black market and illicit labs rather than licensed pharmaceutical manufactures. It is widely acknowledged by health professionals and scientists that the war on drugs has been a complete and total failure with very severe harmful consequences. Besides the issue of the many people who are unable to obtain prescription stimulants, approximately 6 million cancer patients die every year without access to opiate pain medications (WHO). Please consider to sign the Vienna Declaration (www.viennadeclaration.com), a petition sponsored by the International AIDS Society, International Centre for Science in Drug Policy, and other scientific bodies.

I applaud your careful and elegant dissection of the common opposition to using enhancements. I have been thinking about these issues since I worked on steroid legislation for Congress in 1986. Congratulations.

You just made me think about something else that, sometimes, one way or another might as well enhnance or inhibit the brain: aneurism, angiomas, tumors, electromagnetic disturbances, etc. Many scientists, artists, people in general might turn out to be smarter than others or faster in their ability to respond, calculate, integrate, digest, etc. because of their own personal physical condition. Sometimes you might have to choose between become "healthy" or keeping your "ill" condition in order not to lose your privileged brains status.

Just had to let you know that that was one of the most interesting and thought provoking articles I have read in quite a long while. Thank you !

I prefer to use an intermediate point and I think that is Neurofeedback Training.
