Book proposal submissions
Dana Press publishes non-fiction health and popular science books for general readers with a special focus on the brain. Proposals submitted to Dana Press must have strong foundations in authoritative science. We consider proposals only if a full manuscript is available for review. We do not publish books based on personal journeys of spiritual discovery and self-healing.
How to Submit a Proposal
By e-mail
Please send only a query letter with a brief description of the book and your qualifications as an author. For computer security, we do not open attachments accompanying unsolicited inquiries. We will advise you promptly if we would like to see your full proposal and manuscript.

In hard copy
If you prefer, you may submit your query, full proposal and manuscript in hard copy. Please note that if you send a hard copy of your manuscript, it will not be returned. Hardcopy submissions should be sent to:

Proposal Format
1. Description
Summarize the content of your book.
What is your premise--the new point of view or understanding about the brain that you want the reader to gain from your book?
Include a Table of Contents with each chapter briefly described.
Describe any diagrams or art you intend to include in the book.
2. The Author
Briefly explain your background and attach a CV.
If you have previously published any book, please provide:
- Title, Publisher, year of publication. Is the book still in print?
- Information about other formats (e.g., paperback, e-book, other languages) in which it appeared.
- Copies of published reviews of the book
3. The Readers
Describe the intended reader for this book. Describe the similarity to or difference from three or four current books dealing with the subject.
Please mention any special reasons that potential readers might be interested in your book. For example, do health or science news reporters regularly seek comment from you; do you advise an organization dedicated to your subject; do you often speak to or write for the general public on your subject; do you maintain a Web site on the subject that many readers visit?
The average time to review a proposal is six weeks.
