Shawna Bonilla
Shawna Bonilla joined the Dana Foundation in 2023 as a Fellow in the Neuroscience & Society Education Program. Her role includes surveying the landscape and literature of neuroscience resources and initiatives to identify trends, gaps, and needs in neuroscience and society for new programmatic work opportunities. Before joining the Foundation, Shawna was a magnet program coordinator and science educator, developing a robust biotechnology research program for Huntsville City Schools in Alabama. She developed curriculum in several biotechnology fields including neuroscience, immunology, and genetics, and coordinated STEM outreach events for K-12 students. Shawna is a 2023 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science nominee and holds National Institute for STEM Education certification. She received a Bachelor of Science in neuroscience from Temple University and Master of Science in psychology from Capella University. When not at work, Shawna enjoys getting lost in a fantasy book, crocheting gifts for her friends, spin classes, hiking, and sunny days at the beach. Shawna grew up in Manhattan and enjoys a nomadic lifestyle, currently living Washington, DC.
