In 2022, the Dana Foundation refined its longstanding commitment to brain research and public education to focus on the intersection of neuroscience and society. This shift places people at the center of neuroscience. It brings together students, researchers, practitioners, and communities to reflect on assumptions and share expertise, ensuring that neuroscience advances in socially responsible and meaningful ways.
In the four years since, the Foundation has strengthened the positive role neuroscience plays in the world by investing in community building, convenings, and programs that reshape traditional models of education, training, and public engagement.
Our new 2025 Impact Report captures the early impact of these efforts. Inside, you’ll hear from President Caroline Montojo and Vice President Khara Ramos, learn how we are engaging with others to build a neuroscience and society community, and read highlights from grantees across our three program areas.
The report showcases education programs that make neuroscience relevant and accessible for high school students and adult learners by connecting brain science to health, law, ethics, and policy. It features training initiatives that equip graduate students and early-career professionals with interdisciplinary skills to navigate the ethical, legal, and societal dimensions of neuroscience. And it highlights public engagement work that fosters trust and dialogue among communities, policymakers, scientists, and practitioners through shared tools, resources, and partnerships.
This impact report captures only the beginning of what this growing community can accomplish when we link scientific progress to real-world needs, values, and experiences. We hope you’ll dive in to see the momentum behind our mission—and the possibilities ahead for neuroscience and society.
