Shaping the Future: Neuroscience & Society Career Fair

August 20, 2025

Curious about career paths in neuroscience that extend beyond the lab? The 3rd Annual Career Fair in Neuroscience & Society (September 8) is now open for registration—offering a unique opportunity to explore over 20 different interdisciplinary fields including neurolaw, neuroarchitecture, and neuroscience and public policy.

Organized by the Career Network in Neuroscience & Society, which is supported by the Dana Foundation, this free, virtual event invites students and early-career professionals to learn about interdisciplinary career paths directly from experts working at the intersection of neuroscience and society (or “NeuroX” fields). In small group sessions, attendees will get to engage with leaders in emerging and established fields where neuroscience is making an impact.

To preview the fair, we spoke with Career Network Associate Director and Senior Fellow Farron McIntee.

Farron McIntee, Ph.D.

What inspired the Career Network to launch the Neuroscience & Society Virtual Career Fair?

McIntee: We launched the Career Fair in 2023 to provide a free and widely accessible event for participants to learn about careers at the intersection of neuroscience and society (NeuroX careers) directly from leaders in the field, as well as to provide networking opportunities. It’s the only event like it, and we’ve seen increasing attendance each year.

Why is it important to explore NeuroX fields?

The brain plays a central role in human behavior, serving as an architect that is both dynamic and adaptableit shapes how we think, feel, act and relate to others. As neuroscience advances through research and technological innovation, these advances will have implications well beyond medicine and science. Ethical, legal, and societal questions continuously arise.

Our current systems of training promote specialization. But because neuroscience has such broad social application, we need new leaders who have received interdisciplinary training and work collaboratively.

Who is the Career Fair for, and what can attendees expect?

This event is ideal for high school students, college students, recent graduates, early-career professionals, or anyone interested in neuroscience-related career pathways. No previous knowledge of any NeuroX field is necessary.

This year, we are implementing a format that mirrors an in-person career fair, using breakout rooms as “booths.” Attendees will be able to attend multiple breakout rooms and learn from experts in many NeuroX fields, such as neurolaw, educational neuroscience, neuroeconomics, and neuroscience and public health. We will provide a Briefing Book for all attendees and encourage attendees to come prepared with questions.

How can attendees stay connected to the Career Network in Neuroscience & Society?
