The Foundation is supporting a Civic Science Fellowship through a grant to the Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP). After decades of dormancy in psychedelic research, renewed interest in the use of psychedelics to treat many different types of mental illness brings with it the need to better understand how these drugs work and how diverse people interact with psychedelics. The mission of the BCSP is to ensure that psychedelics are investigated for the benefit of all, and that those results are shared with all, through civic engagement. The Fellow will conduct multidirectional engagement with diverse publics to explore questions relevant to enabling the full breadth of society to actively and safely engage with psychedelic science. Questions may also pertain to the impact of psychedelic science on societal issues such as frameworks of mental health disorder classification, diagnosis, and treatment, or how best to integrate indigenous and underground use-based knowledge of psychedelics.
