Georgia State University
Grant Information
Recognizing the growing disconnect between science and society—and the resulting erosion of public trust—this project seeks to empower students and early career faculty to communicate complex neuroscience topics with clarity, accuracy, and empathy. NeuroEngage will be implemented across Atlanta-area institutions and leverages GSU’s strengths in neuroscience education and community engagement to bridge gaps between scientific advancement and public understanding. NeuroEngage has three goals: (1) to train students in neuroscience communication and reflexivity through workshops, community outreach, and mini-grants; (2) to create neuroscience modules for the GSU Bio-Bus and train undergraduate and graduate fellows to deliver them; (3) to prepare postdocs and early-career faculty across GSU, Spelman College, and Emory University for science advocacy through a partnership with Science for Georgia, a non-profit that works to ensure Georgians understand, value, and engage with science.
This grant supports the Dana NextGen objective to strengthen workforce development for careers within academia and beyond, empowering a new generation of scholars in neuroscience and society who will shepherd neuroscience’s positive role in the world.
