Grant Information
The African Neuroscience, Neuroethics and Society Short Course will engage first-year master’s-level students from a range of disciplines—including psychiatry, psychology, neurology, neurosurgery, public health, clinical genetics, and bioethics—from across South Africa. This short course fills a crucial gap in early-career neuroethics training as the first multidisciplinary, intensive neuroethics program on the African continent. In doing so, the short course aims to empower a new generation of emerging African scholars to identify, critically analyze, and address complex neuroscientific issues and their associated neuroethical implications. Furthermore, the Foundation grant supports the development of a publicly available roadmap for addressing neuroethics issues that are specific to African neuroscience, which will be disseminated among faculty members and educators.
This grant supports the Dana NextGen objective to prepare trainees at early career stages to think critically and reflexively about the ethical, legal, and societal implications raised by real-world neuroscience applications through experiential learning and innovative curricula.
