University of California San Francisco (UCSF)
Grant Information
This grant supports the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in a project aimed at enhancing LGBTQ+ representation, participation, and collaboration in stroke research, education, advocacy, and prevention. This initiative seeks to address disparities in neurological research and healthcare access by creating a community-academic partnership comprising UCSF researchers and physicians as well as LGBTQ+ stroke survivors, caregivers, and health leaders. Together, these partners will work to identify community research priorities and conduct a needs assessment to understand gaps in stroke knowledge and prevention efforts in local LGTBQ+ communities. The initiative’s outputs include a needs assessment report, a publication summarizing key research gaps and priorities, and a collaboratively designed, targeted stroke prevention curriculum to be implemented in LGBTQ+ communities. By embedding community perspectives into neuroscience research and policy related to stroke, this project emphasizes inclusion, community engagement, and building trust in neuroscience research and knowledge.
This grant supports the Dana Frontiers objective to pilot multidirectional engagement opportunities to embed community perspectives in research, policy, and decision-making.
