UsAgainstAlzheimer’s
Grant Information
This 18-month grant supports UsAgainstAlzheimer’s 2025 Brain Health Academy, a series of evidence-based courses that equip healthcare and wellness providers with the knowledge to help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and promote lifelong brain health.
A recent Research!America survey supported by the Dana Foundation found that Americans have a high level of trust for doctors, nurses, and other health providers as sources for brain health information, yet early conversations about brain health between these healthcare professionals and their patients are rare. UsAgainstAlzheimer’s recognized that education was needed to make these vital conversations routine and founded Brain Health Academy in 2022 for this purpose. Brain Health Academy courses help healthcare professionals improve patient care and outcomes by providing recommendations for interventions; strategies and considerations for ensuring culturally competent care; an overview of the social determinants of health that may impact risk, care, and treatment; insights from patients and caregivers; and additional resources and tools on the topics. Delivered virtually, Brain Health Academy offers six courses each year to health professionals, providing opportunities for free continuing education (CE) credits, with each one-hour course- available live and on-demand- focusing on a modifiable risk factor for dementia.
With Foundation support, UsAgainstAlzheimer’s focuses on attracting over 6,000 health and wellness providers to the program by expanding its continuing education credits to include continuing medical education (CME), which advances medical knowledge, skills, and professional performance to improve patient care and outcomes. If offering CMEs increases physician participation, this information provides valuable insights for the Dana Education program and other professional education projects targeting physicians and allied healthcare professionals.
This grant supports the Dana Foundation objective to facilitate greater understanding and informed decision-making among professionals by supporting new education approaches on neuroscience topics related to their practice.
