Grant Information
This one-year grant supports two Secret Science Club/Dana Foundation collaborative programs, named the “Dana Foundation Neuroscience & Society Talk Series.” The talks are free and open to the public and take place in-person at Secret Science Club’s mainstage venue, the Bell House, in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
At Secret Science Club (SSC) events, scientists deliver accessible, data-driven talks on discoveries in their fields and unleash scientific research on inquisitive audiences. All SSC programs provide opportunities for bi-directional exchange between the audience and speakers through a lengthy Q&A following the talks. SSC events typically draw between 200-300 attendees.
The new talk series brings neuroscientists and practitioners from other disciplines together with public audiences to explore the connections between neuroscience and society’s opportunities and challenges. The talks feature two presenters in dialogue on a topic or theme followed by Q&As that engage attendees in the conversation. SSC works in collaboration with the Foundation to select speakers and topics in neuroscience and society that elevate diverse perspectives. The events are recorded and posted on the Foundation’s YouTube channel for viewing.
This grant supports the Dana Education objective to empower people of all ages to use neuroscience in their everyday lives by strengthening their knowledge of the field’s real-world applications and ethical considerations through sustained informal education programs.
