Theatre for a New Audience - 2008

Funded in March, 2008: $25000 for 1 years
Dana Foundation funding enables TFANA to expand and strengthen its three in-school education programs. The World Theatre Program is a 12-week residency in which NYC Public School students in grades 5-8 see a Shakespeare play produced at TFANA and study that play with teaching artists in residence in the classroom.  The New Voices Program is a 13-week playwriting program in which NYC Public School students write their own one-act plays with playwrights in classroom residence and study a classic play they see produced at TFANA.  The Young Voices program is a 10-week residency that adapts the New Voices curriculum for elementary and middle school students. The grant builds upon improvements to the programs funded by Dana in 2003 and 2005. Teaching artists will deepen their understanding of how City and State Learning Standards are linked to classroom residency lessons, gain a fuller picture of how the residencies support the City's Curriculum Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Theatre, and take on greater leadership roles in the training process.
